Drawing tools
Core painting, shape tools and pixel-focused brush controls.
Pencil and eraser
Select Pencil with B or Eraser with E. Adjust size using [ and ], or the top control bar. Paint Settings contains the shared brush controls. Undo a stroke with Ctrl + Z.
Fill
Select Fill with K, choose a color and click the area to fill. An active canvas selection restricts eligible pixels. If nothing changes, check the active layer, its visibility and lock state, and the current selection.
Gradient
Select Gradient with Shift + G. Choose the gradient options, then drag on the canvas to preview it. Releasing the mouse commits the gradient as one undoable artwork edit. Changing tools afterwards keeps the committed pixels.
An active selection clips the gradient to the selected region. This is also a useful way to apply a gradient to just one object.
Line, rectangle and ellipse
Use L for Line, U for Rectangle, and Shift + U for Ellipse. Drag between the intended start and end points, then release to finish the shape. Brush size, paint settings and the current selection influence the result.
Path
Choose Path from More Tools. Click to add anchors and drag to shape curves. Review the temporary path, then use Apply or Cancel in the top bar. Path is a distinct operation from the freehand Pencil tool.
Contour Fill
Choose Contour Fill from More Tools. Draw the contour on the canvas and release to finish the filled shape. The operation follows the active layer and canvas selection; Undo restores the previous artwork.
Spray, Blur and Pixel Shuffle
These tools live in More Tools. Spray distributes pixels, Blur blends neighboring artwork, and Pixel Shuffle rearranges local pixel color. Their effect depends on the brush controls and existing pixels. Use small strokes while testing a setting, then Undo if needed.
Opacity Brush
Choose Opacity Brush with A. Its modes include Set, Add, Remove and Randomize. Set the alpha percentage and brush size in the top bar. Randomize also exposes a high alpha value. Alpha changes transparency rather than the pixel’s RGB color.
Pixel Perfect
Enable Pixel Perfect in Advanced Settings for pixel-focused line cleanup during drawing. Toggle it off when you want the uncorrected stroke. It does not rescale your canvas or apply an image conversion.
Mirror painting
Enable X Mirror or Y Mirror in Advanced Settings. Position the corresponding axis before drawing; the active axis remains visible. Moving an axis changes where later strokes mirror and does not rewrite existing pixels. Disable the mirror toggle to stop mirrored drawing.
Custom tools and presets
Use More Tools and Edit Tools to find and organize tools. Save tool presets through the customization controls when you want to reuse settings. Tool Flow Rules can change which tool becomes active after an operation completes; keep those rules in mind if the active tool changes after Apply.
